Campaign for Liberty

Mr. Smith, I appreciate your thick skin with me… I would be honored to write something… You and I share many ideals and I think you love this country with a deep understanding of it’s original small government intent. I appreciate the airtime. :)

"Freedom is the absence of government coercion." Dr. Ron Paul

http://www.ronpaullibrary.org/document.php?id=395

I recently had an awakening, much like my spiritual awakening at 19. Different in that one conversion was spiritual and one was intellectual. It’s the same in that they both started when I actually began to read books and look in to the facts for myself. Until then, I only had opinions backed by headlines, public opinions, hot air, and the media… It’s up to you to decide if I am full of hot air or simply pulling the curtain back and screaming that the emperor has no cloths on…

"You’ve probably noticed that opinion pollsters go out of their way to include as many morons as possible in surveys… I think it’s dangerous to inform morons about what their fellow morons are thinking. It only reinforces their opinions. And the one thing worse than a moron with an opinion is lots of them." – Scott Adams

I thought about what I would write and then came across this gem of a video… It says what I think is the most important message today. Please bare with me as I lay a foundation.

Cognitive dissonance and selective perception naturally divide us… So… I understand that some will see things through a different lens no matter what truth is presented. I assure you that my philosophy is rooted purely in American history and personal liberty… A strict interpretation of the constitution. The one common denominator we have is liberty. People can divide themselves into a million groups, but liberty is what we should be defending…

No preemptive war (believe it or not George Washington agrees)… No federal income tax. No welfare state. No unbalanced budgets. The smallest possible government is what I advocate. I am for sound money, strong defense (not to be confused with offense) and a sensible foreign policy (aka not policing the world). We have NO moral or constitutional authority to do so. I would like to hear a sound argument justifying 5,000 American solders dead. 100,000 wounded. 500,000 innocent Iraqi women and children for the "security" of the U.S. (which hasn’t made us more secure) Who are the monsters here???

As our Founders understood, this notion of "security vs. freedom" is a lie.

Freedom is security. – Ishpeck

Throughout history, governments have been the threat, the oppressor. Terrorist can never destroy our liberty; if liberty dies it will be at the hands of our own government. Ironically the "patriot act" is doing just that…

If "dissent is the greatest form of patriotism" (Thomas J.), how in the name of giving up freedom for security do we justify it to be patriotic? Patriots fought off the overreaching hand of the King to give us freedom. Giving up freedom in my opinion is the opposite of patriotism. The "terrorist" may cause terror, but they will never take over our country. If you understand why they attack us in the first place, you would think it foolish to support our current foreign policy.

Freedom would also throw off the shackles of being taxed on your labor. Four months you work for the federal government. That’s a lot of vacation time :) You pay so many taxes you’re getting 50 cents on the dollar… Personally, I’m not getting a good return on my investment.
Think of the freedom money brings to an individual… Like when you sit around your house thinking how free you would be if you won the lottery… How would you like a 40% raise? No income tax!!! I don’t think I’m telling you anything you don’t want… People always flip out and say what about schools and roads. I love this question. It’s called property tax and gas tax. There are a million taxes my friend, income tax is just one. If you want to see a great documentary on the birth of the income tax…

THE ROAD BLOCK

"It is well enough that people of the nation do not understand our banking and monetary system, for if they did, I believe there would be a revolution before tomorrow morning. " Henry Ford
We can’t move forward until we understand that the American struggle for small government and liberty is being divided by two parties who are controlled by powerful interest. In short, the two party system is really one party. We have moved further from constitutional government under Bush than any other president. Both parties pander to certain groups. Depending on what you "believe" you then place yourself in that party. The most classic example… If you are pro life, pro sanctity of marriage, and a Christian you most likely vote Republican… It’s almost like the Republicans got the Christian class and the Democrats got the evolutionist, liberal, gay, poor class… Both promising things we don’t need.

However, six out of seven things I listed should have zero effect on your vote or party affiliation. Are they important issues to you, yes, but that is NOT your patriotic duty… Yes, on paper, Democrats have a different philosophy of government then Republicans… However, they both start wars, both overspend, both raise taxes, both expand government, both endorse the patriot act, both pass bailouts, both make no sense for true constitutional government.

The problem is… We shouldn’t grade our politicians on any criteria except their adherence to the constitution. Every 4-8 years we ping pong between Republicans and Democrats. It’s a game of good cop bad cop in my opinion… Each party goes to Washington and does 90% harm and solely because of party loyalty that group ignores the bad, alienates the middle and then gets voted out. While the other 50% of America hopes the new guy will be better… It’s nothing more than chairs being rearranged on the Titanic. The whole time we are ramming into the iceberg and sinking… Only this time liberty dies… (btw: liberty is not stopping gays from being "married" by the state)

The people out number politicians by a couple hundred million. If we truly demanded liberty and constitutional government we would get it. Why then are we not demanding it? Simple, divide and conquer. We are so divided over side issues; we let politicians get away with murder. I’m not talking about bipartisanship, I actually hate that word. I am talking about fighting for constitutional government not a political party. Think of how far we have strayed from our constitutional republic under both the Democrats and Republicans.

My biggest concern… I am convinced that nobody knows what the constitution means. If nobody knows what liberty is… How can the people demand it or recognize it in a candidate? Most people only seem to concentrate on superficial promises and where they stand on gay marriage… Hilariously sad!!!

Why are we dividing ourselves into categories? Do you consider yourself a Republican? You are not getting the limited government you think you are… You are not getting less government intervention or less spending. You are not "conserving" liberty. In fact the last two Presidents to have a balanced budget were Democrats… The constitution is the pillar of truth, not a party. What party supports that pillar with action and results? NEITHER… Throw them both out. They had 100 years and they gave us the exact opposite of constitutional government. I will not defend a party because they claim to know Jesus…

Book plug: "Recarving Mt Rushmore" by Ivan Eland
Good video interview:

If you remember nothing else (if you read this far :) It’s simply this… What makes a good leader in Washington? I’m convinced, Americans don’t know what to look for in leaders. We have to know what liberty looks like in order to vote for it… We need to understand the role of government. People are voting for all the wrong reason. Emotional, racial, social, economic, whatever it may be…

The constitution was written to protect you from government. The founders knew throughout history, greed, agenda, ideas, dreams and mischief of man, only oppressed the people… We need to vote for the constitution. Liberty has not been found in either party for the last 100 years… Why would you hold onto or defend a party that has basically used your religious beliefs to manipulate you into believing the biggest threat to our country is gay marriage… Or simply look at their record in office. Republicans don’t even come close to adhering to the constitution or being conservative. Are you for a political party or are you for America?

If you draw a line on paper from left to right, freedom is at the far right. On the far left are Democrats and Republicans, they’re separated with only a minor degree of difference. If you hold up a ruler of limited government and constitutional principles, both parties fail and are unfit to be in power.
My favorite quote ever…

"In questions of power, then, let no more be heard of confidence in man, but bind him down from mischief by the chains of the Constitution." Thomas Jefferson
Both parties have gotten away with pure personal mischief. Neither party is your friend…
Better article than I could write. Highly encourage reading it…
http://www.theothereveningnews.com/2007/12/bind-them-down-from-mischief-by-chains.html

For my Republican friends… By simply voting Republican and assuming you are getting a small government person is a huge fallacy… When you dive into the facts, each party is equally as destructive to liberty and your personal wealth. The beloved Ronald Reagan doubled the size of the federal government.

Not until we elect the candidate who most lines up with the constitution (not party or rhetoric) will we be on the path to prosperity and freedom… Until then, both parties will lead us down the wrong path and have proven time and time again to destroy our freedom. This video is from 1988 and we have the exact same problems now. When will we get smart and demand truth not party???

I strongly believe most American people ignored Dr. Ron Paul because they didn’t know what liberty looked like… The funny thing is, Dr. Paul is more conservative in the tip of his little pinky than McCain could ever lie his way to being… His philosophy is the only one the founding fathers would have recognized…
