Don’t believe in modern day miracles? You will now!!

Friday, January 16, 2009

With so many people in this world so quick to deny any existence of a higher power, it is great to see Him prove them all wrong in one awesome act.  I point to the mere fact that an airplane carrying 155 people, passengers and crew included, can land safely in the middle of a busy city in an ice-cold river with both engines disabled and not one person die or suffer a major injury.

So today I am going to take a slight break, not a complete break, from my usual ranting’s about our money/power hunger bureaucrats to show God’s love and mercy upon a people who are so quick to curse and deny his name.  What happened yesterday is nothing short of a miracle.  If you are not familiar with the story, click here and read about it.

Can you grasp the enormity of this?  Lets build the scenario in our heads.  A jet, not a small plane, but a jet with 155 people aboard is taking off at speeds of approximately 120 – 150 miles per hour.  While in its ascent it encounters a flock of Canada geese.  Enough geese to disable both engines.  In my mind that sounds horrible enough.  Now throw in there the fact that this plane has no solid ground to land on with its landing gear out.  A nice paved area where it can make a rough landing but a much safer landing because it has its landing gear to land upon.  This plane now has to land on water.  Now as we wrap our minds around that we can undoubtedly come up with a scenario where the plane lands smoothly and bobs on the water for a little bit or at least hits the water somewhat safely.  We need to take a few additional facts into consideration.  All it takes is for a tip of the wing to catch the water and that plane is in an uncontrolled cart-wheeling motion in which all aboard undoubtedly die.  If that is handled correctly, then you have to have the nose of the plane up just right.  If it is down just one degree too far, then you have a roll-over situation in which all aboard undoubtedly die.  If you can navigate those two situations then you must have the rear of the plane at a proper angle as not to slam it in the water first causing the plane to stop to suddenly, slam to the water and most likely come apart.  That is just a few that I can think of.  I am sure there are plenty of other situations that I am willfully uneducated about that could have caused major problems.

So ask yourself, were these people lucky and the pilot having a great day that he could perform all of these tasks in such a short period of time without causing one casualty or major injury?  Or, could there be some higher power at work here?  My answer is that God had a hand in this.  His hand had grabbed the plane and placed it within the water as to not harm any bystanders in the buildings or on the streets nearby.  His hand placed them in the water and allowed the plane to stay afloat until all passengers safely abandoned the plane.  This is the modern day miracle that people claim could never happen.  I say open your eyes and see the truth.

Until next time.

Another comment regarding personal miracles…Carol Addison said something in SS yesterday that so resonated with me. We pray for miracles for other people all the time. BUT somehow we never expect one for ourselves, maybe b/c we don’t think we are worthy, don’t even ask, etc, etc. I just thought it was so true. Just a reflection!!! There are miracles right here in my life and I am going to start recognizing them and calling a “spade a spade” and a miracle a miracle!! Hope this is a better week at the Smith household!!!

Could it be that he was a very experienced and qualified pilot who knew how to handle the situation? It was Chesley who guided that plane to the Hudson River and safely landed on the water, through years of hard work and understanding. Why would this God of yours (being that he / she / it has a higher power to intervene whenever) sacrifice a flock of birds just to mess with 155 humans in a man made machine? To prove it’s existence?

Spare a thought for the many other plane disasters / natural disasters that this power of yours was absent from. Didn’t feel like coming in that day?

Get a little common sense here, Chesley is / was the right man for the job on this, he saved the day, not some higher power.

Please, I really mean no disrespect to your personal beliefs but at least make them plausible.

    Have a nice day.
